Sweetwater Journey has, from the beginning, delighted its audiences with upbeat melodies* and interactive performances. They truly bring history to life.

Donn performs both solo and with his wife Diane and their son Ben. They have been performing together since 1989, the bicentennial of George Washington’s authorization to build the first lighthouses in the United States. Notable performances include Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Indiana Dunes National Park, National Association for Interpretation Cleveland Convention, and at the Father Marquette Museum.

About Donn

A former University of Michigan Professor of Great Lakes Maritime Heritage, Donn is the award-winning author of six books. He has also composed four school musicals as well as songs for seven CDs.

Donn has served as the director and interpreter of three National Historic Landmarks that interpret our heritage:

  • The Chief Richardville Treaty House in Fort Wayne, IN (the 18th century fur trade era)

  • The Grosse Point Lighthouse in Evanston, IL (the 19th century schooner era on the Lakes)

  • The Henry Ford Estate in Dearborn, MI (the 20th century)

Donn Werling has been listed as a noteworthy environmental educator by Marquis Who's Who.

Donn holds degrees in the following:
